BRITONS are again finding that Spain is the number one dream destination for a holiday home.

The number of Britons buying abroad plummeted after the financial crisis but the strong pound and relatively buoyant UK economy are making a home in the sun look more and more affordable. Sky-high UK house prices have given many homeowners enough spare equity to fund an overseas purchase, while mortgage finance is cheap. The Costa Blanca is the number one destination for Spanish sunseekers, followed by the Costa del Sol, Balearic Islands, such as Majorca, and the Canaries. The Spanish property market is on the up again after a tough few years and British investors are rediscovering their love for this beautiful country. Prices are starting to recover, up 4.2 per cent in the first quarter but they are still lower than before the financial crisis.
